THE MAE VIGNOLA AWARD

Jaime Marckwordt

T

his year (2006), there was no organized I.S.G.C. meeting at WESTPEX, but the society was mentioned at the awards banquet.  Mae’s son Frank Jr. sponsored a Mae Vignola Award for the most active and hardest working volunteer on the WESTPEX committee for this year’s show.  Frank Jr. was present at the banquet to present the award in person, after the warm introduction of the award as follows:

This is the first Mae Vignola Award presented here at the WESTPEX annual banquet. It is sponsored by her son Frank Jr. who is here tonight.  This award is given to the hardest working volunteer in the WESTPEX committee.  Mae was herself one of the hardest working volunteers in WESTPEX.  Everyone knew how devoted Mae was to philately and best known for her affiliation within the International Society of Guatemala Collectors. We will miss Mae’s presence tremendously, but tonight she is not forgotten.  We honor this year’s committee member Leonard Holmsten with this the Mae Vignola Award.

The winner was present also to get the gold awarded to his exhibit Swiss Stampless Mail.

We are sure that Mae must be very happy that an award carrying her name is destined to reward the behind the scenes and sometimes tedious work of volunteers she was such a devoted example of and without whom stamp shows could hardly be organized at all!
