New Issues 2007

January 23, 2007      2006 was declared Year of Transparency by the Comptrollership of Public Funds Controlaría General de Cuentas to publicize improved control over use of public funds throughout the country, who organized a contest among its personnel to design a stamp issue on this subject. The thirteen projects submitted were evaluated by a jury composed of Lic. Ziomara de León de Ramírez, Chief of the Philatelic department and two I.S.G.C.officers: Jorge Baca and Carlos Rivera.  All are pictured above.  Walter Giovanni Arévalo’s design was chosen and rewarded together with the two next best entries on May 14, 2006.

Surcharges on earlier issues

Substantial stocks of earlier stamps issued in the 1990s remained in stock, as their face values were no longer adapted to the rate schedule in force since IPS took over postal operations in 1998.  Acuerdo Gub. #531-2006 of November 3, 2006 authorized their surcharge to currently used denominations.  Issued on January 23, 2007.
